As the latest model, the Sony Xperia 1 IV brings a number of improvements, especially in the telephoto camera aspect on the back.

Now, the Sony Xperia 1 IV is equipped with a 12 MP telephoto camera with an 85mm variable zoom lens (f/2.3, 3.5x optical zoom) up to 125mm (f/2.8. optical zoom 5.2x).

Previously, the Sony Xperia 1 III was only equipped with a 12 MP telephoto camera with a 70mm variable zoom lens (ecutiv, full frame, f /2.4, 3x optical zoom) up to 105mm (ekuiv. full frame, f /2.8. 4x optical zoom).

Not only the range is getting bigger, the telephoto camera in the Sony Xperia 1 IV also now includes "continuos optical zoom 85-125mm" technology.

This technology is said to be the first to be embedded in a smartphone.

Camera lenses in smartphones themselves usually only have one focal length (fixed), including for telephoto range. For example, there are phones that have two telephoto lenses, 70mm and 240mm.

The photos at 70mm and 240mm will look good because they are indeed at the native optical zoom points of both lenses. However, the photo between the two points will look less good or like a photo crop (cut), because the zoom is done digitally.

Sony's Continuous Optical Zoom 85-125mm telephoto lens is said to be able to perform optical zoom continuously from 85mm to 125mm points, without the help of digital magnification.

The optical zoom mechanism is similar to the variable zoom lenses commonly found in DSLR cameras and mirrorles, namely by moving the lens elements forward and backward to change the focal length. See Photo Configuration of the three rear cameras of the Sony Xperia 1 IV. (PetaPixel)

In addition to the 12 MP telephoto camera, the Sony Xperia 1 IV is also equipped with a 12 MP (f/1.7, 24mm) main camera and a 12 MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2, 16mm).

The three rear cameras are equipped with Optical SteadyShot, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) made by Sony.

Then, the entire Xperia 1 IV rear camera is also equipped with Real-time Eye Autofocus (AF), Real-time tracking capabilities from Sony, and the ability to record 4K video at up to 120 fps.

For screen specifications, Xperia 1 IV uses a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel with 4K resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling rate, and has been protected by Gorilla Glass Victus glass.

The brightness level on this phone is said to be 50 percent higher than its predecessor.

On the front side, the phone's screen has a small hole (punch hole) that contains a 12 MP (f/2.0, 24mm) selfie camera.

For the runway kitchen sector, Sony Xperia 1 IV is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4nm) chipset, which is combined with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of media storage.

This phone is supported by a 5,000 mAh battery with support for a 30 watt fast charging charger. With the fast charging feature, the phone's power can be charged up to 50 percent within 30 minutes.

Other features brought by the Sony Xperia 1 IV include 5G support, the Android 12 operating system, a fingerprint scanner integrated with the power button, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e, a 3.5mm audio jack plug, Bluetooth 5.2, and USB Type-C, as compiled from GSMArena.

This phone comes in Black, Violet, White color variants. For the price, Sony Xperia 1 IV (12/512 GB) sold at a price of 1,600 US dollars. The Sony Xperia 1 IV will be available in the United States on September 1, 2022.
