Apple Iphone 3G 16GB

Phone 3G is mostly what we hope for in the second version too-popular-for-itself handset. Apple addressed call quality concerns, and demands for better web experience through 3G and fast email support company, has made it worth the upgrade for many first-gen iPhone owners. And while additional stereo Bluetooth and Assisted-GPS is only catch-up other smartphones, the new App Store that increase far ahead. We were a little disappointed that the iPhone 3G still lacks video recording, and we want the user replaceable battery and expanded storage, but overall the phone is really satisfying and iPod.

See / What's New

The back of the iPhone 3G is now glossy plastic and contoured, provide better ergonomics than its predecessor's aluminum back but also gives a more smooth feeling. 16GB model comes in black or white, while the 8GB model in black only. Physical volume and power / lock button and switch on the side of the finger and the now polished aluminum. Native iPhone hidden headphone jack (which grow mini-market and headset adapter) is fortunately already supports one flush with the phone.

Everything else is placed on top of the first iPhone, including 3.5-inch multi-touch screen (480 by 320 pixels packed tightly), speakers at bottom, on the SIM tray, and 2-megapixel camera lens on the back. The front is only interrupted by a sound hole and the physical Home button.

Overall, this is a sexy naughty phone. This will be completely closed fingerprints, so Apple included cleaning cloth. We are big fans of the shrink-down AC power adapter, but the stock iPhone headset and the USB cable to remain unchanged, and no pier or dock adapter.

Network Specifications

The iPhone is a quad-band on GSM / EDGE networks, but the main addition is a tri-band 3G support (UMTS / HSDPA) for better call quality and data throughput is much faster in the U.S. and abroad. Another important addition is the Assisted GPS, which tracks your location via cell towers and WiFi networks and GPS satellites. This feature is integrated with Google Maps, but it also supports third-party applications.

Third Party Applications

App Store is definitely a prominent feature, offering approximately 1000 applications at the time of this writing. Although we eventually spent about $ 50 in the application only on the first day alone, around 200 of the application-free shop. So many developers are combined with Apple's screening process many customer reviews of this platform to write for.

Our favorite applications so far include own Apple Remote, which can be used to control iTunes (and AirTunes) on your computer wirelessly, Pandora (Internet radio service), Air Hockey, and Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D, which is annoying addictive driving game that uses iPhone's accelerometer. And they are easy to manage, appears in iTunes as the icon itself in the left pane, and in new applications tab when the iPhone is connected. We do, however, run into a few apps that will not install, will not load, or fall telephone.

We're looking forward to the developer to look at integrating the iPhone into a multiroom audio systems, home theater systems, DVRs, game consoles, and other network equipment.
A-GPS
The Assisted-GPS feature uses data from satellites, WiFi networks, and cellular towers to find you a very good accuracy. In our test, our iPhone is far more appropriate if we have a clear view of the sky (and thus satellites) than when we were in the room and depending on the cell network and data.

We found Google Maps and features such as live traffic can be counted on in New Orleans and New York City, but the accuracy can vary, depending on where you are. You can also visit the App Store and pick up a third-party applications such as where, which is a location based social networking tool, or G-Spot - a GPS-based utility to help you remember where you parked.

Multimedia playback and Bluetooth

3G iPhone is an iPod killer, with excellent browsing and playback capabilities. Includes support for audio formats WAV, Apple Lossless, MP3, AAC (protected and DRM-free), and heard, while the video is still limited to MP4, M4V, and MOV (all using either H.264 or MPEG-4 codec).

Apple has not added many parts of the interface since the original iPhone. The only significant enhancement Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, which is important because the lack of this feature original iPhone did not like almost all other smartphones. We use a Bluetooth headset with the iPhone 3G, and all works well, with no lag in the audio / video sync, and the music will stop when a call comes in.

Battery Life

Unfortunately, 3G guzzles power, cutting battery talk time for two when you are talking or browsing - 10 hours of 2G to 3G versus 5. Most of the iPhone will last approximately 12 hours with moderate use features such as browsing, GPS, texting, and talking. If you use a Bluetooth headset, WiFi, 3G voice, push email on your Exchange account, and the camera, you'll burn through batteries in about half a day.

IPhone's battery is not desperate user-removable; you must send it to Apple for a total of about $ 85. If you plan to use all the phone features a heavy, consider an external battery pack - they have to start hitting the market in August.

Who Will Dig and the Not

We're hard to find people who do not want the iPhone 3G - a situation that has caused a global shortage is likely to continue for several more months. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on one, it would be valuable both for personal use given its versatility and extensibility. Make sure you can live without video recording.

Business users have to check with their IT department about the deployment, but it seems solid infrastructure in place for the iPhone to begin to steal market share from RIM BlackBerry. Business users are also far more likely to run down the battery in less than a day, so keep that charger handy

Pros:

• Very good call quality
• Faster Web browsing
• Excellent app 3rd party support
• Improved email support
• Broad feature set

Cons:

• Still no video recording or MMS original
• 3G drains battery fast
• There is no extended memory
• Battery not user replaceable

Navigating the Interface

IPhone software 2.0 was just very good. Multi-touch interface lets you swipe, pinch, expand, and press around very quickly without the delays and leading accuracy. Arrange icons on the home screen is now a piece of cake, which is important because you can add tons of applications and Web pages to it.

Intelligent virtual keyboard that appears when you need it, and during the last year of life with the iPhone before, we can quickly by typing on it than we ever had on any phone a physical keyboard. That's partly because the iPhone keyboard to adjust the way you type on it, dynamic resizing of touch to the zone based on usage patterns. Predictive text feature works great, although you can disable this option.

Apple iPhone 3G Calling Someone

Finally the iPhone is a phone. Original iPhone took a lot of heat poor call quality, and thankfully the iPhone 3G call quality is very good. The earpiece speaker can ad a little harder, but the clarity in both incoming and outgoing audio is excellent, especially through 3G.

As with the original model, the phone accelerometer and proximity sensor responds very well, lock the screen at the right time to prevent accidental key presses. And visual voicemail is still one of our favorite features.

Email

Updated email client that works with IMAP and POP3 accounts and have been preset for Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, and Apple's MobileMe account, but the big news is Microsoft Exchange support, making the iPhone a proper business phone. MS Exchange ActiveSync also lets you wirelessly sync contacts and calendars, and you can receive emails on my phone as soon as hits the server. Setup is simple if your company uses Exchange 2007, thanks to a feature that automatically Autodiscovery find the address for your server.

Now email client that lets you trash or move several messages at once, which is a big plus, but you still can not find the email, which is often a big pain. (You can work around this by using a web-based email service provider clients instead.) At least you can search your contacts, which is useful if you have hundreds to choose from. Solid attachment support: You can view a PDF, JPEG, Word, Excel, and PPT files directly in email client.

Message
The iPhone's threaded text messaging app is easy to use and comfortable allowing you to take the thread where you left off. Surprisingly, you still can not send picture messages or video, this is one feature that we expected but never came. Which again, we're just as happy to send our pictures directly from the camera application via email.

Taking Photos / Video

The iPhone's 2-megapixel quality seems identical to the original, which is pretty good and somewhat iffier outdoors. GPS chip allows third-party applications such as for SnapMyLife geotag your photos and share them locally.

Surfing the Web

Web surfing is faster with 3G than EDGE, and the type of network the iPhone currently uses shown on the upper left corner of the screen. AT & T coverage is not always consistent, but in New Orleans, we usually get between 2 and 4 bars 3G, only very occasionally run into EDGE areas.

With 2-3 bars 3G, we had a load of 5 to 10 seconds for sites such as CNN Mobile, Apple.com, Amazon.com, and Craiglist.org. Sites with lots of pictures on the front page, including DigitalTrends.com, NYTimes.com, and BBCnews.com take a little longer, at 15-25 seconds. We have not run into any site compatibility issues, but let us know in the forums.

Our favorite extra is the ability to touch and hold the image on the Web and save it to your iPhone. Unfortunately, there is no cut and paste feature.

BlackBerry Javelin8900 and Usual PDA/ Smart phone Differences

BlackBerry is almost the same functions such as cell phones and most PDA phone. What distinguishes the BlackBerry is Java-based System Operations artificial RIM (BlackBerry vendor).

BlackBerry is a solution for us all to be able to telephone, access email, corporate data, browsing, organizer, Chating with YM, GTalk, etc. 24-hour non-stop in your hand. Email and SMS Chating felt since you can access it anytime and anywhere. And you can boost productivity in the work for has a fairly complete organizer that can manage the daily schedule you more efficiently.

You no longer need to carry a laptop everywhere. Everything is in one's grasp. Telephone, internet, chat, GPS, WiFi, Entertainment Video, Audio, Game, and others. You can also connect to a computer with a USB like PDA or Mobile ordinary.

So what difference the BlackBerry with Usual PDA phone ?

BlackBerry can compress any incoming email with a ratio of 1:100 (scale extreme). So incoming instance your inbox 1000kb (1MB), so if you use the BlackBerry for its size is only 10Kb. So, the bandwidth consumption of blackberries are very thrifty.

If PDA Mobile Phone or email normally keep too many, say 1000 emails. So your device will slow down and even hangs. And if you use email Blackberry tens and even hundreds of thousands does not matter, because the BlackBerry is designed to do such heavy work.

Maybe your head if you see the price much more expensive than ordinary Mobile. This is because a line has to offer BlackBerry excellence. And popular BlackBerry resilient. Believe it or not, some colleagues in the mailing list id-blackberry even have impressive experience with their blackberries, there are kecebur the gutter, kecebur in the sink, falling from a height of several meters and the most fun, some use of his Blackberry 8700 to open shell crab when eating sea-food. This shows the quality of the BlackBerry that is not arbitrary.
This variety of other BlackBerry features:

1. Can send emails and receive emails as much as possible. With the compression of two times (content and communication) so that we can get real-time push email / web faster and save bandwidth. And open more quickly because emailpun perfect compression from RIM.

2. Send and receive emails as easily as send and receive sms, and do not need to open the laptop and do an internet connection.

3. Unlike the SMS which only 160 characters, with BlackBerry you are free to send Any number with an email with no additional charge again.

3. Email is more formal for the people who do business, so the letter - correspondence more easily and reliably.

4.Can make browsing the Internet anytime and anywhere.

5. Can receive RSS with the help of Vigo software.

6. Can chat with a variety of media both YM, Google Talk (GTalk), Blackberry Messenger in real time, wherever and whenever 24 hours non-stop.

7.Chatting a colleague or friend who is outside the country or anywhere for free and can realtime.Dan talks lsg results sent via email if they are related to the business or the lain2.

8. Affordable monthly fee for unlimited internet connection without limit. Price depends on the operator.

9. Can be used as a GPS. So you will not get lost when you're driving because you can know your position with the GPS feature.

10. WiFi. You can do with WiFi internet connection. This is very useful when you are overseas, where there a free HotSpot scattered everywhere, but if we use local operators roamingnya expensive.

11. We can follow the mailing lists that we like.

12. Number can be used for mobile phone and SMS like in general. But the advantage is that keyboard will facilitate and speed up your typing a message or email.

13. Organizer is your regulator is a complete schedule.

14. Now the world is in your grasp. You can connect anything, anywhere, without limits.

15. Media Player. This is the additional entertainment for you wherever and whenever.

15. Only by using your new blackberry device can meresakan all these benefits, because when using other brands hp and use the blackberry connect not all functions can walk.

Sony Ericsson Announces new "GreenHeart" Mobile Phones June 2009

Sony Ericsson unveiled on Thursday the C901 'GreenHeart' and the 'Naite' mobile phones, saying that they are more eco-friendly. The new phones are part of the company's focus to offer 'greener' products in the next two years.

The company unveiled goals for reducing CO² emissions across the whole company by 20% by 2015 in absolute terms. At the same time the company committed to reducing the total greenhouse gas emissions by 15% from the full life cycle of its products i.e. from the mining, production, through the use by consumers to the end of life management by 2015.

A key pillar of these commitments is the introduction of Sony Ericsson?s new GreenHeart pioneer products which launched with two flagship phones ? the C901 GreenHeart and Naite- and the MH300 headset, one of the greenest on the market.

Both the C901 GreenHeart and Naite build on Sony Ericsson?s industry leading 'green core', the result of a long standing commitment to eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals from its phones. Additional 'green' features include an e-manual that reduces paper usage by over 90%, smaller packaging that decreases transport related CO² emissions by over 80%, recycled plastics and a low-power charger.

The C901 GreenHeart will include an electronic, in-phone manual to replace the standard paper version, saving over 90% in paper and reducing the environmental impact of transporting the final product through more compact packaging. The C901 GreenHeart phone casing is made from a minimum of 50% recycled plastics and includes an optimised display light sensor that uses less energy. The phone is coloured with waterborne paint that lowers exposure to Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC).

The C901 GreenHeart will ship with the MH300 GreenHeart headset, one of the greenest headsets available, made up of 100% recycled plastics in 4 out of 5 hard plastic parts and far exceeding legal environmental requirements.

As well as featuring many of the innovations showcased in the C901 GreenHeart, Naite will come to market with a low-power charger, the EP300 GreenHeart charger.

The C901 GreenHeart will also include a WalkMate application, letting users really walk the talk about being more eco-friendly by comparing the steps they take with the equivalent journey travelled by car. And Naite includes an Ecomate application helping users make greener choices in their everyday life as well as a Carbon Footprint Calculator to show you how much CO2 you are saving when you walk instead of taking the car.

LG enV Touch

The LG enV Touch owns two 3-inch displays.Like the Touch screen of LG Dare and LG Versa, the LG enV Touch has one in the outside interface.
The Device also brings other features like the updated EV-DO Rev.A.The latter is quicker than just regular EV-DO,it will only take 20 seconds to download a 1.5mb song, full HTML web browser with capability to tab between pages, spacious QWERTY keyboard which makes thumb-typing a breeze and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

Some of the downfalls have to do with the responsiveness of the web browser and the touch screen interface, for example,it can be difficult to tap on a link on a packed web page. What a pity, the LG enV Touch do not pack WiFi.Anyway,it is a nice top messaging phones in Verizon’s lineup.

Helio Hero

Helio is the latest cell phone company to make a play for the youth market, with its flashy Hero handset.
The multimedia-heavy Hero includes an audio and video player, IM and e-mail applications, access to games, and a 2-megapixel camera. It also comes with links to a mobile version of the popular MySpace.com Web site.

Helio is a new MVNO, or Mobile Virtual Network Operator. The company uses Sprint Nextel's 3G EvDO network for both voice and data service where possible, switching to a slower CDMA connection in areas where the broadband-level network is unavailable. The company launched its service and handsets (the Hero and another model called the Kickflip) in the United States earlier this year.

The Hero is a thick, bulky handset that is almost reminiscent of T-Mobile's Sidekick (which we classify as a PDA/phone), though slightly smaller at 4.3 inches high by 1.9 inches wide by 1 inch thick. (The Sidekick III measures 5.1 by 2.3 by 0.9 inches.) When closed, the Hero's dominant feature is its 2.2-inch color display. Above the display are dedicated keys for launching the music and video players. Below are two soft keys, send and end buttons, a back button, and a four-way navigation pad with an enter button in the center.

While the Sidekick twists open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, the Hero slides up to reveal a subpar keypad. My chief complaint about the handset: The number keys are recessed too far, making them difficult to push. They're also quite slippery. I always prefer a full QWERTY keyboard, and it seems as though Helio could have used the considerable space on this handset to include one.

The Hero weighs 4.7 ounces, which is heavy for a standard cell phone, and you feel that weight when holding the device next to your ear, especially during long conversations. It offers good voice quality, however. Talk-time battery life is only fair, as the charge lasted 5 hours, 52 minutes in our lab tests--not the lowest result among standard cell phones we've recently tested, but not at the top of the charts, either.

The 2-megapixel camera is easy to access and use, and includes some impressive features, such as a flash and a 4X digital zoom. As with many cell phone cameras, however, there is a noticeable delay between when you press the shutter and when the phone actually captures the image, so the moment you wanted to preserve may have already passed by the time you take the picture.

All of the unit's impressive multimedia features are easily accessible from the logically arranged menu. The handset ships with Helio's Media Mover software and a USB cable for transferring audio and video files to the phone. The audio and video players are easy to access and use. The phone also ships with earbuds, but doesn't include a memory card for the phone's TransFlash slot. You can play audio over the handset's speakers, as well; volume is adequate, but the sound is tinny.

The millions of MySpace.com users around will appreciate the Hero's easy access to a mobile version of that popular site. While the site looks good on the Hero's screen, entering text and searching are difficult due to the poor keypad.

With a two-year contract from Helio, the Hero costs $275 (as of 8/4/06). That's not cheap. But if you're in the market for a multimedia phone and you can't stand to leave your MySpace account at home, the Hero is worth a look.

Leaked Photos of Blackberry Storm 2 Surfaced

Leaked photos of the Blackberry Storm 2 have appeared all over the web, which actually started when some tipster sent it to Crackberry. It looks a lot like the Blackberry Storm but since this is a successor to the original, then let’s expect it to have some upgraded features.

The tipster said that this will have Wi-Fi support in addition to the GPS. There will also be a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, and will also have a new touch-screen technology, called the True Press, which is perhaps an improved SurePress on the current version. This is also said to be thinner and is much faster than its predecessor.

This will be launched under Verizon, though release date and pricing is still not yet known.

Verizon Wireless has just become the first wireless carrier to offer a mobile phone boasting E-Ink technology! Samsung and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless have announced that the Samsung Alias2 is now available for messaging fanatics that like living on the cutting-edge of keypad technology.
As expected, the new Samsung Alias2 features keypad buttons outfitted with mini E-Ink displays that allows the keypad to morph from traditional numeric keypad to QWERTY keyboard.
Open the Alias2 in landscape mode, and the keypad will automatically reconfigure itself as a four-row QWERTY keyboard. Open the dual-hinged flip vertically (in portrait samsung alias2 sch u750 verizon 3 300x832 Samsung Alias2 brings E Ink keypad to Verizon Wirelessmode) and the keypad reverts back to a numeric setup. Each key acts as a mini E-Ink display, capable of “redrawing” the symbols on its face. And, because the keypad uses E-Ink technology, very little power is required to reconfigure the keys. In fact, passive E-Ink keys only draw power when changing configurations.

The Samsung Alias2’s claim to fame is its E-Ink keypad, but it also brings a 2.0-megapixel camera, Bluetooth (with A2DP), microSD card slot, one-touch “magic” shortcut keys and a 2.6-inch display to the table. It’s not huge on features, but if text messaging is your thing, and you love to “wow” your friends with new technology, the Samsung Alias2 is sure to please.

Grab your Samsung Alias2 from Verizon Wireless today for $79.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new 2-year customer agreement.

Acer DX900, the Acer Tempo with dual SIM card support

Recently Acer introduced its smartphone X960, and yesterday, the company also decided to make official the launch of its DX900 model, a mobile that is characterized by its support for two SIM cards, simultaneously. Even so, it is very possible this smartphone DX900 is more famous for the commotion it caused some days ago: it was the first Acer model in a development stage that was leaked to the press and it ended up being a redesign of another existing mobile (E-Ten Glofiish DX900).

Leaving aside this fact, the smartphone is presented with a screen similar to that of the X960: a 2.8-inch touchscreen (640 x 480). It supports HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access), but this support is limited to one of the SIM cards; for that reason, the another SIM card supports only the GSM standard. The mobile allows users to be connected via WiFi (802.11b/g) and includes a Bluetooth 2.0+EDR module.

This device is very oriented to a professional segment. It has installed the Outlook Mobile email client and other well-known programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. All those program are installed on Windows Mobile 6.1 (of course). Regarding the other features, the most important could be a 3-megapixels camera with auto-focus, GPS (SiRFstar III), and built-in microphone / speakers.

Its measures are: 106mm tall, 60.5mm wide and 17mm thick. It weighs 147g. This mobile is able to offer a talk time of up to 5 hours and a stand-by time of up to 150 hours.

Nokia E61

Design
The E61 is branded by Nokia under the tagline of "Nokia For Business", and the business in this case appears to be mimicking the BlackBerry model, adding a few interesting features along the way.

From a design standpoint, that means that the E61 looks and more or less feels like any other BlackBerry-styled handset that you've seen before. Weighing in at 144g with the battery installed and measuring 117mm x 69.7mm x 14mm, this is hardly a tiny unit by mobile standards, although it's lithe by BlackBerry standards. A business-like silver finish gives the E61 a nice professional look and avoids the scuffed/grubby look that some black phones pick up all too easily. The keyboard on the E61 is backlit with a function key to switch between dialling and alphabet entries, although for the most part that's handled quite well in a context-sensitive way. A five-way joystick sits at the top of the reasonably-sized (for a phone) keyboard, flanked by the E61's dedicated menu and email buttons. Volume and voice recorder buttons sit on the left hand side, although the right hand side is left clear of buttons. If you're a BlackBerry afficionado used to a scroll wheel and back buttons, you may find the E61 takes some getting used to. The E61's 320 x 240 TFT display screen is bright and clear for pretty much every application you could think of to use on the phone -- both business and non-business related.

Features
It's pretty clear which route Nokia's designers chose to take when deciding which technologies to implement on the E61. It basically chucked them all in. The end result is a phone with (deep breath) support for GSM 850/900/1800/1900, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, Infrared, VoIP, Push To Talk, and Mini SD storage cards. On the software side, you can add to that list support for Symbian OS 9.1 compatible applications, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents, as well as Zip files and PDF files via Adobe reader. The E61's screen can be sent out to compatible projectors via the E61's screen export package, making it a potential replacement for some ultraportable notebooks, depending on your usage patterns. Naturally as a competitor in the BlackBerry space, the E61 has full support for POP3, IMAP, SMTP and Microsoft Exchange Server email. In an odd, and decidedly non-corporate way, it also supports instant messaging clients from Yahoo and AOL, MP3 and AAC music playback and RealPlayer video support. Just don't let the IT department know about those features and you should be fine.

One feature that's normally de rigeur with 3G phones that the E61 omits is any kind of camera, so if your business life also includes the odd video call, this isn't the phone for you. The flipside of this is presumably that it'll be easier to convince your IT department to buy one if it doesn't look like a consumer phone in any way whatsoever.

Performance
Where the E61 impressed us the most was in the breadth of its scope, especially given the inbuilt support for WiFi. The inclusion of WiFi makes it a true option for work within the office and outside of it, as it's capable of using whatever data connection is to hand for incoming messages and other data transmissions. The mobile carriers may not be happy with this -- data rates over 3G and GPRS are typically very high -- but it's a good argument in the E61's favour that you'll be able to use wireless services for data transmission when you're in a compatible hotspot or in the office. The same also holds true for voice calls, where you can use VoIP clients for calling purposes. Naturally, it's a good idea to make sure you are connected properly to your WiFi connection before initiating a VoIP call, otherwise you'll find your VoIP savings evaporate when your carrier charges you data rates for your call.

The one caveat we'd attach to the E61 is that a lot of its menu choices aren't as clear as they could otherwise be, and you'll sometimes find yourself trekking through multiple screens to achieve a desired result. As an example, you can scan for nearby wireless access points in the phone's connection manager, but only connect to insecure points that way -- if you need to classify wireless security settings for an access point, that's in an entirely different menu and sub-menu structure.

Like most BlackBerry-style devices, the E61 is technically capable of making phone calls, although it's arguably a somewhat secondary consideration; like most phones in this form factor it feels a little daft holding up a small brick to your ear, and the phone dialling buttons are on the small side. Presumably Nokia figures that the business market the E61 is pitched towards will all go down the Bluetooth headset/voice dialling route. While we're on the physical problems page, we also found that the navigation joystick on our review sample was a little twitchy when it came to differentiating between a downwards push and a selection click, which made some online navigating and menu selections a touch trickier than they needed to be.

Nokia rates the E61 as being capable of up to 9.5 hours talk time and up to 17 days standby time. Given the wide range of battery-sapping applications that you can have enabled -- Bluetooth and WiFi alone can bring even the biggest and meanest battery to its sobbing knees -- we expected to hit the lower sides of those estimations, and were pleasantly suprised to hit them almost exactly with moderate use of the phone in 3G and WiFi modes.

Samsung Instinct s30 Reviews

Samsung Instinct S30 also known as Samsung Mini has been officially released and is already into a lot of buzz these days. The new mobile has many of the features embedded from the Samsung Instinct mobile but it can be called as the improved version of its predecessor. It is much more advanced and lot slimmer than Samsung Instinct. Apart from the other names, this set is also popularly known as Samsung M810. Now looking deeply into the features and the technology it offers, we would see why this mobile is better than the Samsung Instinct.

The display of the mobile is great and the 3.2 inch wide TFT touch screen display can accommodate up to 262K colors in it, giving a resolution of 240X432 pixels. This signifies the brilliant color display of the LCD. Design of this set has been mad slimmer and better. The overall size of the mobile is 4.53 x 2.13 x 0.50 inches which signifies a change in the width over Samsung Instinct. Looks nice to hold in the palm and is excellent as far as interface design is concerned. Samsung Instinct S30 does not come in with a keyboard but it offers a virtual QWERTY keyboard with full functionality. The GPS System of the mobile runs well and there is no complaint regarding this in the cell.

Among the striking features, Samsung Instinct S30 offers visual voicemail technology, Microsoft live search, stereo Bluetooth 2.0, sprint navigation, text messaging with threaded text and many more features that makes this mobile a great buy. The talk time of this mobile is similar to Samsung Instinct and lasts for 4.6 hours. Battery life is great and the call quality is decent. Speaker phone is of the average quality and so is the music. Sounds are clear but when played at too high volumes, they seem to be distorted a bit. It weighs less at only 3.9 ounces and is a portable model of Samsung Instinct.

The web browsing experience is better since it comes in with in-built Opera Mini 4.2. However, again the camera quality of the mobile is not up to the mark. It offers a 2 mega pixel camera which gives decent quality pictures but they seem to be quite hazy and blurred when taken while zooming. It supports microSD card for the expandable memory option and the internal memory of the mobile is fine.

Considering the software conflicts and other problems that were noticed in the Samsung Instinct, this new version guarantees less errors and almost no software problems associated with it. In short, if we were to describe this mobile in terms of its predecessor, it would not be wrong to claim it as a better and improved version of Samsung Instinct. With all the great features enabled an software problems eliminated completely, Samsung Instinct S30 has a long way to go and will surely turn out to be yet another classic smart phone from Samsung.

At a credit crunching £48.50, the Vegas is the cheapest touch screen pay as you go handset in the UK, and is available in classic black or, exclusively to the folk at Orange, a bubblegum pink for the ladies.

The specs are pretty limited as you might expect, but for under £50 you'll get a 1.3 megapixel camera, a media player and built-in FM radio. There's 128MB of built-in memory to store your snaps and music, but you get a microSD card slot that will let you whack up the capacity to a rather respectable 4GB.

Not wanting to discriminate against the pay monthlies among you, the Vegas is also available for contract users, but we'd think this will probably be more of a pull for the pay as you goers out there.

You can get your hands on the Vegas now from Orange stores or online. Keep your peepers fixed on Stuff.tv for a hands-on vid review very soon.

Samsung SGH-J700

Samsung’s J700 is fairly widely available. You can pick it up on O2 pay and go and Vodafone pay as you talk in black, but only Orange has the purple version. This purple SGH-J700 is available on Orange pay as you go for £69.99, and Orange supplied me with a review sample.

This is a slider handset and its looks are pretty standard in comparison to some of Samsung’s mobiles. It doesn’t have a touchscreen and isn’t amazingly tiny, nor does it have a fancy mega-sophisticated camera and in fact it doesn’t claim to be super-duper at anything. ‘Style with substance’ is the phrase used to describe the SGH-J700. I’d certainly go with the ‘style’ part of the equation as the phone looks rather nice albeit in a predictable and understated kind of way. I’m not so sure about the ‘substance’, though. What is on offer in terms of specifications is at the lower end of mid-range.

As a tri-band handset with GPRS and EDGE you aren’t going to expect to be blasting away at web page reading and mobile email very much, but then the smallish screen measuring 2in across the diagonal isn’t screaming out to be used for such visually rich activity.
In fact, the screen’s 128 x 160 pixels are the first sign that this mobile drops in at the lower end of mid-range. When I did try some web browsing the resolution was such that I gave the attempt up fairly quickly. The screen is just not up to it.

The other dead giveaway as you glance at the specifications is the camera. At 1.3-megapixels this is actually more entry-level than mid-range. As you would expect its performance isn’t wonderful. Over exposure is its key problem I discovered and it is a biggie.

The coloured dish, photographed under normal household lighting conditions is possibly the most over exposed I’ve ever seen this particular shot. The background is meant to be white, but this phone’s lens has gone overboard and the dish’s colours are rather washed out as a result of the overexposure.

Outdoors, the flower heads are simply a blob of white rather than distinguishably individual. The chair fares better, and is really quite good compared to the other photos I took with this phone. The camera’s lens is hidden under the slide mechanism when not in use which helps to protect it from scratches. It has a large and serviceable self-portrait mirror, but no flash.

As sliders go the SGH-J700 is a neat and tidy example. It weighs 92g which shouldn’t trouble your pocket. At just 15mm thick and 48mm wide, its 99.5mm of height are the only real let-down. There appears to be a lot of unused space above and below the screen which leaves you feeling that maybe Samsung could have shaved off a few mm of height. When opened the phone is about 135mm tall. The slider mechanism itself is smooth but there is nothing to push or pull against on the front fascia to open and close the slide. So you are left either thumbing the screen which can cause a grease problem or using the navigation wheel or lower buttons for purchase which can cause unwanted selections to be made.

The numberpad which lies under the slide is flat, its keys separated by very low raised ridges. They keys are large and I didn’t find using them a challenge. With the slide closed you have a fairly standard arrangement of front buttons. The two softmenu keys are round blobs that sit either side of the navigation pad. They don’t look very pretty to my eyes, but they work well enough.

The navigation pad itself looks as though it should be one of Samsung’s wheely specials - the kind you can rotate under a finger as well as press up, down, left and right. But only the latter functions are supported.

Beneath the navigation pad and way too close to the bottom of the handset for my personal taste are the Call, End and cancel buttons. I tend to find buttons so close to the bottom edge of a mobile’s front fascia a little awkward to use at times.Orange’s home screen has been built into this handset, which means you scroll vertically through a set of four menu groupings to get to applications and features that the company thinks you’ll use a lot.

The device main menu is connected to the left softkey so you can get out to everything on the handset easily. The frequently used Contacts application is connected to the right softkey.

There isn’t a great deal of built in memory, though 10MB may be enough for many users. If you want more a microSD card slot is present on the left edge of the phone. An obvious use is music storage, and here, despite the sheer irritation of Samsung’s proprietary headset connector, I have to admit to a pleasant surprise. The phone provided 12 hours 15mins of continuous music played from a microSD card. Even then it was not finished, and the phone stayed alive and voice call capable for about three more hours.

There is an FM radio on board and it’ll self tune 25 stations. As ever the antenna is not built into the handset so you need to use the proprietary headset.

Other apps include a calendar, mobile email, voice recorder, memo, world clock, calculator, timer, stopwatch, five alarms, unit converter, and a few games. There is also an image editor which lets you play a little with photos you shoot. It lets you apply some nice effects to photos and do things like add emoticon stamps and tiny clip art.

Samsung Xplorer B2100

Samsung launches a new phone, the rugged Samsung Xplorer B2100 that is built to withstand submersion, dust, extremes of temperature and shocks, the Xplorer meets military specification MIL-STD-810F; since you’ll want to use it as a phone, too, it’s quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900) though not 3G.

The Samsung Xplorer has a 1.77-inch 120 x 160 LCD display, microSD slot to augment the pitiful 7MB of internal storage, a 1.3-megapixel camera and speakerphone. There’s also Bluetooth 2.1 and a 1,000mAh battery good for 9hrs talktime or 600hrs standby.

“Samsung Xplorer is the perfect companion for consumers who enjoy active outdoor activities.” said JK Shin, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Communication Division at Samsung Electronics. ”With the launch of Samsung Xplorer, Samsung will be able to solidify its position in outdoor phone market and continue to make products that excel in durability and usability.”
